Scrum Education Unit (SEU) Requirements in February 2019!
According to an email sent to Scrum Alliance certified trainers and coaches, the Scrum Education Unit requirements that were previously active only for coaches (CEC, CTC) and trainers (CST) are now being rolled out across ALL Scrum Alliance certifications.
This means that, in order to maintain a Scrum Alliance certification, you will need to earn a number of SEUs during the course of your one or two year certification term. SEUs can be earned by:
Attending a Scrum gathering (global or regional)
Participation in a local user group
Watching a community-provided webinar
Writing a blog post
Reading a book about Scrum and/or Agile Development
Volunteering in some way to give back to the community
For the foundational certifications (CSM, CSPO, CSD), the required number of SEUs to earn during the two-year certification term is 20 (with a renewal fee of $100).For the advanced certifications (A-CSM, A-CSPO), the required number of SEUs to earn during the certification term is 30 (with a renewal fee of $175).For the professional certifications (CSP-SM, CSP-PO, CSP), the required number of SEUs to earn during the certification term is 40 (with a renewal fee of $250).When you attain advanced or professional certification, the previous certifications stay in effect when you renew your Scrum Alliance certification. In other words, if you've attained the CSP-SM certification, by renewing it, you automatically (and without additional renewal fees) also renew the A-CSM and CSM certifications. The same is true for CSPO, A-CSPO, and CSP-PO certifications.

NOTE: You have the opportunity to avoid SEUs for a little longer for certifications that expire prior to December 31, 2019 by making sure that you renew BEFORE February 4, 2019.
